John McGarry

JohnMcGarry was born and raised in Upstate New York and graduated from the CulinaryInstitute of America in Hyde Park, NY.

Following graduation, he moved to Atlanta in 1990 and spent the majority of his culinary career working with Tom Catherall at Here To Serve Restaurants.  Catherell, recognizing his talent, quickly came to rely on John, moving him within the company to open and spearhead new restaurant concepts.

McGarry started his career working at Azalea and TomTom in Lenox Mall. He was then promoted to Executive Chef at Prime Steak and Sushi, where he helmed the kitchen for 8 years.  Catherall then moved McGarry to Goldfish at Perimeter Mall, where he spent the next six years as Executive Chef, before heading back to Prime and eventually working at Cantina and Noche in Brookhaven.

Most recently, McGarry worked as Executive Chef at Jefe’s Tacos, which was co-owned by the Kaleidoscope team of Joey Riley and Doug Gross.  It was at Jefe’s Tacos that McGarry’s talents were clearly recognized by Gross.  In fact, when Gross was made General Manager of Lagarde American Eatery, his first thought was to hire McGarry to help Chef/Owner Jamie Adams run the kitchen.  Their cooking styles and work ethics meshed perfectly and now McGarry is excited about once again making his mark on Atlanta’s culinary scene at Lagarde.
